Check the new start time for the Crucible!
And you thought Day One and Two were tough!
On Day 3, the racers will literally “head for the hills” for the Crucible, leaving Farragut State Park and making their way over several of the neighborhood peaks as they run, kayak, orienteer and bike around scenic southern Lake Pend Oreille!
"Racers have the option of competing in either the Midnight Ramble, Crux or the Crucible, but for those brave enough to go after the combined prize, the Crucible will challenge you like never before!
> Approximately 20 challenging miles on mountain bikes:
~ Gravel and dirt forest service roads, fire trails, and snowmobile trails.
~ Quite fast, downhill single track stretch
~ Substantial hills, and maybe even a bit of “hike-a-bike.”
**ALSO, we are very pleased to announce that we will be having a GREAT rappell on either the Crux or the Crucible day! (TBA soon!) so check the gear list, and keep checking in!
> 5—10 miles on foot:
~ There will be a timed orienteering phase.
~ Mountain “climbing:” We are working on getting a ropes element and rappel in place. If so, harnesses, rappel devices and Prussik cords will be required. As always, trekking poles are HIGHLY recommended!
~ Trail running on various types of terrain - LOTS of climbing!
> Kayaking: Approximately 12 miles on the lake in a couple of different legs. Should be nice, but could be “nasty…”
> Swimming and “wet” obstacles? Yes. Plus some other surprises. Bring your dry bag and a towel!
> There will be at least one “intellectual” challenge as well as a possible fitness or skills test.
This will be a robust test, but should be one of the most enjoyable days you will ever have in AR!
